The Journey To Myself

My name is Helen Foster and I am a Level 3 qualified Pilates Instructor having trained with one of the best in the business, Body Control Pilates. 

I currently teach Group Matwork Classes around North Wiltshire and also private sessions for 1, 2 or 3 people at my home in Brinkworth.

I started taking regular Pilates classes when I suffered a back injury and found the benefits of this method so overwhelming that I decided that I would like to assist others in realising these benefits so decided to train to obtain my Pilates qualification.


What is Pilates and where did it come from?

Joseph Pilates was  born in Germany in the late 1800's. A series of childhood illnesses including rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever was overcome by his great determination to become fit and healthy. He experimented with many different approaches to exercise from yoga, self-defence and martial arts to dance, gymnastics and weight training. The combination of these he called "Contrology" which he believed promoted the perfect balance of strength and flexibility.

From this he devised a way of moving, targeting the deep core muscles that stabilize the torso. Pilates stream lines the body, re balances it so we can move more efficiently and effectively. This improves posture and gives a longer, leaner stronger looking body. A body that is flexible yet strong.

What is the Body Control method?

Body Control Pilates is renowed as a world leading education provider for the Pilates method and Body Control Pilates is the largest professional Pilates organisation outside the USA.
Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective - and medically-approved. It is of an holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is 'awareness of your own body' and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles: 

Relaxation, Concentration, Cordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina, Flowing Movements
By working on the deep architectural structure of the body, 'core stability' is achieved, and then maintained, through increasingly complex movement sequences. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one's body.
Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body - Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily.
